Special Institute Campaign--Do you want an intellectually vibrant, compassionate and inclusive Orthodox Judaism?

Posted May 4, 2010 - 8:55am

Do you want to reclaim an Orthodox Judaism that is intellectually alive, compassionate, inclusive? Do you believe that Orthodoxy has become increasingly narrow and extreme, and that modern Orthodoxy has been losing its voice and its courage?

The Institute for Jewish Ideas and Ideals, founded by Rabbi Marc Angel in 2007, is striving to foster an Orthodox Judaism that can help restore the vision of Orthodoxy as a world religion, rather than a confined and confining sect governed by an authoritarian leadership.

Please join in celebrating the 65th birthday of Rabbi Marc D. Angel. In honor of the occasion, a fund has been  established in support of Rabbi Angel's Institute for Jewish Ideas and Ideals.

Rabbi Angel has been serving the Jewish community since 1969, when he began his rabbinic service to Congregation Shearith Israel. He has authored and edited 27 books, and has held many communal leadership roles. His energies are now focused on advancing the goals of the Institute for Jewish Ideas and Ideals.

The Institute sponsors an active and informative website (www.jewishideas.org); publishes a journal, Conversations; sponsors a University Network for students; issues a weekly Angel for Shabbat column; sponsors programs and publications here and in Israel-and much more. The goal is to raise at least $650,000 for the Institute, to meet current needs as well as to serve as an endowment fund for the future.

An online Scroll of Honor is listing contributors to this birthday tribute to Rabbi Angel. Please participate in this endeavor, thereby strengthening the important work of the Institute for Jewish Ideas and Ideals. You may contribute online, or by sending your check to Institute for Jewish Ideas and Ideals, 8 West 70th Street, NY NY 10023, indicating that the contribution is for this birthday tribute campaign.

We thank the many who have contributed to the ongoing success of the Institute, and who are investing in the future of Orthodoxy and the Jewish People through their contributions to this campaign. Together we can achieve great things.
